Secrets Akumal has achieved significant and measurable sustainability milestones and received the Preferred by Nature™ mark. The requirements for certification are aligned with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria. This certification assures our commitment to reduce the impact of our activities on the planet and local communities.
Wildlife Protection
Secrets Akumal is a proud participant in the Akumal Bay Management Plan, designed by federal authorities to encourage safe and responsible diving practices around sea turtles. As part of the plan, the government has established several guidelines related to specific times of allowed diving and the use of appropriate equipment.
During the sea turtle nesting season, from May to November, the hotel takes extra precautions to remove obstacles on the beach and reduce light and noise pollution in order to provide a disturbance-free nesting area for the turtles.
Recycling & Resource Conservation
Secrets Akumal has adopted a “No Straw” policy on our beach and at our pool bars in an effort to protect marine life from plastic waste.
